High school seniors who have been named a National Merit Finalist or College Board National Recognition Program recipient receive special merit scholarships at Arizona State University.

National Scholar students should submit their application to ASU if they haven’t already, then activate their ASURITE User ID. Once you have your ASURITE USER ID you can apply to Barrett, The Honors College .

Arizona National Scholars

Arizona National Merit Semifinalist

If you are named a National Merit Finalist, you are eligible for ASU's New American University National Scholar award of $16,000 per year. The award is renewable for an additional three years, worth $64,000 over four years at ASU. To receive the National Scholar award, you are required to select ASU as your first choice institution with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation by May 1, 2024. Upon that, ASU will upgrade your award. This will replace any previous New American University merit scholarship.

Arizona National Recognition Awardees

As a College Board National Recognition Program Awardee (National Hispanic, National African American, National Indigenous, and National Small Town/Rural Recognition Awardee), you are eligible to receive ASU's New American University National Scholar award of $16,000 per year upon admission. The award is renewable for an additional three years, worth $64,000 over four years at ASU. This will replace any previous New American University merit scholarship.

Nonresident National Scholars

Nonresident National Merit semifinalists

ASU is pleased to offer a $16,500 national scholar award if you are named a National Merit Finalist, have selected ASU as your first choice by May 1, and have been admitted and ultimately enroll in Barrett, The Honors College at ASU. This award will replace any previous New American University award and is not stackable with other New American University awards. If you decide not to apply or enroll at Barrett, you will still receive your original New American University award from ASU.

This is a $16,500 award for a total of eight semesters, with a value of $66,000 over four years.

Nonresident National Recognition awardees

As a College Board National Recognition Program Awardee, you are eligible for ASU’s New American University National Scholar award. This is a $16,500 award and to be eligible you must be admitted and enrolled at Barrett, The Honors College at ASU . This award will replace any previous New American University award and is not stackable with other New American University awards.

This is a $16,500 award for a total of eight semesters, with a value of $66,000 over four years.

Additional scholarship opportunities

National Scholars can apply for additional scholarships and financial aid to help cover the remaining cost of attendance. This list is meant to provide suggestions for additional funding options and is by no means comprehensive. Students are encouraged to apply for scholarships as early as possible since many ASU and Barrett scholarships close in February.
